Before you start TRUQAP, your doctor will perform a biomarker test. An IHC test is done on a small tissue sample (taken from a biopsy) to detect PTEN deficiency in tumors. This will help your doctor determine if TRUQAP is right for you.

In metastatic* prostate cancer with PTEN deficiency, there are two different sources in the body that cause cancer cells to grow and spread. TRUQAP + abiraterone† work together by blocking both sources of tumor growth at the same time.

TRUQAP blocks cancer signals in one of those sources from telling cancer cells to grow and spread. Abiraterone† lowers testosterone, a hormone that fuels tumor growth.

*Metastatic=cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.

†Abiraterone is taken with prednisone (steroid).

TRUQAP is taken 4 days in a row, followed by 3 days not taking TRUQAP, each week.

  • Take TRUQAP exactly as your doctor tells you
  • TRUQAP is taken two times a day about 12 hours apart
  • Take your morning and night doses of TRUQAP at the same time each day

The recommended starting dose of TRUQAP is 400 mg two times each day, for a total daily dose of 800 mg.

Take TRUQAP exactly as your doctor tells you to as your doctor may adjust your dose based on your personal treatment plan. Do not change your dose or stop taking TRUQAP unless your doctor tells you to.

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. TRUQAP may affect the way other medicines work, and other medicines may affect how TRUQAP works.

Know the medicines you take. Keep a list of them to show your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist when you get a new medicine.

If you miss a dose of TRUQAP, you may still take it within 4 hours from the time you usually take it. If it has been more than 4 hours after you usually take your dose, skip that dose. Take the next dose at your usual time. Do not take 2 doses at once to make up for a missed dose.

TRUQAP may cause side effects, which may sometimes be severe, including:

  • High blood sugar levels
  • Diarrhea
  • Skin reactions

The most common side effects of TRUQAP were:

  • Skin reactions
  • Diarrhea
  • Tiredness
  • Changes in certain blood tests

Remember to always tell your doctor about any side effects you experience, especially if side effects are severe or if they don’t go away or get worse.

You may experience side effects at any time during your TRUQAP treatment. Side effects can be challenging, but sometimes you and your healthcare team can do things to help you manage them. Always take TRUQAP + abiraterone with prednisone exactly as your doctor tells you to, and do not stop your dose unless your doctor tells you to.

TRUQAP is taken as a combination therapy. This means it's intended to work with another medicine.

TRUQAP works with the hormone therapy abiraterone. Abiraterone is an oral hormone therapy taken once daily. Each dose of abiraterone is 1,000 mg. Your doctor will also prescribe a steroid, known as prednisone, 5 mg, taken orally, once daily, or according to how your doctor has prescribed.
